So. First month of 2018. Already a project finished. And another personal project finished since I began in 2009.
A mate of mine asked me when he visited, "So are you an exhibitionist now?" and I probably gave him my typical Benji response of too many words, silly jokes and not a straight answer - but I would say... Ive always enjoyed displaying my ideas and sharing thoughts and my exhibit was simply that. A challenging one because it was literally my mind exposed to strangers and I was quite open and deep with a lot of the content. From comedy to articles about anxiety to personal poetry to humanitarian issues to a lot of random conceptual ideas in between and of course my crazy imagination with my script extracts.
I enjoyed it. It was a blur and it was a bit overwhelming seeing people interact and absorb my nonsense. Mostly stuff that seems to get very little attraction on the social media sites.
One guy nearly floored me with some feedback I'll cherish where he said he was deeply moved by some of my words and he took it as advice for his own personal demons and even said he felt inspired.
This has given me the encouragement to keep pushing forward and not only try to leave a mark and inspire but to improve myself and to learn to coexist with people of all backgrounds and show to people I'm learning, thinking, changing, adapting, redeeming and sharing.
Thanks to NN Contemporary Art for the opportunity and I will be applying again :) (I'm an idiot.)
And sorry to everyone for those bloody stairs. I won't lie though, it was fun watching people walk through the door out of breath, felt like I was a P.E teacher.
- Lastly, my "If all fucks up, what's my contingency plan" idea was to just grow a massive beard, not shower for a month and just sit in the space and when people show up, I run up to them and hug them and scream "I MADE HUMAN CONTACT! HOW DID YOU FIND ME!"
